Mother-of-Pearl Shell Metaphysical Properties
As far back as 4000 BC in ancient Egypt, Mother-of-Pearl was used for decorative purposes by cultures across the world. During colonial times, a primary use of Mother-of-Pearl was to make buttons which were then exported all over the world. In the 1920's, a series of Sumerian royalty tombs were excavated to the east of Babylon in the Middle East which yielded beautiful ornaments and jewelry with Mother-of-Pearl inlay and in Asia, the ancient Chinese discovered that beads or tiny figures of deities slipped between the soft mantle and shell of a living mollusk soon became coated with Mother-of-Pearl.
